Community to celebrate its teachers

ALLENTOWN – The Upper Freehold Regional Elementary/ Middle School will join thousands of communities across the country next week in celebrating PTA Teacher Appreciation Week.

The national week of recognition was created when the PTA expanded on Eleanor Roosevelt’s idea of National Teacher Day, established in 1953, and dedicated a whole week to celebrate the accomplishments of educators.

The Upper Freehold Regional Elementary/Middle School PTA has organized several events during the week ofMay 4-10 as part of the effort to call attention to the contributions teachers make to individuals and communities.

Maria Veit, co-chair of the PTA’s committee for the week’s events, said, “All of us know of exceptional teachers, and we should recognize that there is a great deal of good work being done in our schools.”

The local PTA has planned to honor teachers with recognition banners, posters and thank you cards prepared by students and parents. The PTA will also provide daily positive messages and treats for teachers, thank you gifts donated by local area businesses and a staff appreciation breakfast on May 14.

The national PTAis made up of more than 5 million parents and other concerned adults devoted to the educational success of children and the promotion of parent involvement in schools. A registered nonprofit, the PTA prides itself on being a voice for all children, a relevant resource for families and communities and a strong advocate for public education.

Membership in the local PTAis open to anyone who is concerned with the education, health, and welfare of children and youth.
