Used bike collection slated for May 10

Pedals for Progress (P4P) is conducting a used bike collection sponsored by the Metuchen Rotary Cub and the First Presbyterian Church of Metuchen at the First Presbyterian Church Social Center, 270Woodbridge Ave., Metuchen, on May 10 from 9 a.m. to noon. P4P collects over 11,000 bikes annually and ships them to partner agencies in developing countries who recondition the bikes and sell them at low cost to poor workers. These bicycles provide them with reliable transportation to work and other services. It costs $35 to collect, process, ship, rebuild and distribute each bicycle.

Adult and children’s bicycles in repairable condition will be accepted. Dissembled bikes or bikes for parts will not be accepted. A donation toward shipping costs in necessary; the suggested donation is $10 per bike. All cash and material donations are fully tax deductible.
