Library to mark Israel’s 60th anniversary in film

The East Brunswick Public Library, in partnership with the local Jewish community, will host screenings of the Hebrew romantic comedy “Like a Fish Out of Water” at 1:30 and 7:30 p.m. on May 20 at the library, Jean Walling Civic Center. The film is the second in a series to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the state of Israel.

The 2006 movie, which runs for 50 minutes and is not rated, tells the story of Marcelo, a new immigrant from Argentina who falls in love with his female Hebrew teacher.

Leonid Prudovsky’s movie, which won the Audience Award at the Hong Kong Jewish Film festival, is only shown at film festivals and is not available on DVD. A discussion will follow the screening.

The event is sponsored by the East Brunswick Public Library. For more information about Israel’s 60th anniversary in film, log on to the library’s Web site at www.ebpl.org or call (732) 390-6767.
