State fiscal issues to be focus of discussion

Jon Shure, president and founder of New Jersey Policy Perspective, will discuss long-term solutions to the state’s fiscal problems when he speaks to the Monroe Township League of Women Voters beginning at 1 p.m. on May 19 at the Monroe Township Municipal Building, Perrineville Road.

The program is free of charge and open to the public.

Shure has suggested that the proposed state budget takes New Jersey in the wrong direction, cutting vital services and jeopardizing its future. Discussion will focus on the idea that although the proposed cuts might seem to help balance the budget in the short term, they actually will not have a long-term benefit.

New Jersey Policy Perspective is part of a broad coalition of organizations, including the League of Women Voters, that is campaigning to prevent the proposed statebudget cuts. The campaign is called Better Choices for New Jersey.

The league is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that endeavors to educate its members and the public on public-policy issues.
