Frick wins NCAA East Region high jump championship

Princeton University sophomore Justin Frick won the NCAA East Regional men’s high jump on Saturday. The victory sent the former Freehold Borough High School state champion on to the NCAA Division I Track and Field Championships June 11- 14 in Des Moines, Iowa.

Frick improved his personal best in the high jump to 7-2¼ at the Regionals hosted by Florida State University in Tallahassee, Fla.

Runner-up Donte Nall of North Carolina matched Frick’s 7-2¼. However, Frick cleared that height on his first attempt while it took Nall three attempts.

The top-five finishers at the NCAA Regionals last weekend automatically qualified for the NCAAs.

Ashley Higginson, a freshman at Princeton, seems headed to NCAAs as well. The former Colts Neck High School national champion runner was sixth in the women’s 5,000 (16:32.0) in Tallahassee. However, she’s appears to be a lock for a “wild card” ticket to the NCAAs.
