A piece of artwork reported stolen on May 21-22 from the yard of a River Road, Hopewell Township, home was recovered on June 3.
According to Chief George Meyer, the bronze sculpture, which is abstract art in the shape of a wave, was found at a consignment auction house in Repaupo —located in Logan Township, Gloucester County. It is valued at $5,000.
Township police were notified by S & S Auctions on June 2 that they “believed they had the stolen sculpture. A man attending an auction thought that he recognized the piece from a photo and story in an area newspaper. The man notified the auction house. Staff researched the article and then contacted police,” the chief said.
Detective Michael Simonelli, who is investigating the theft, retrieved the sculpture and will be returning it to the owner.
”The investigation into who stole the piece and how it ended up at the auction house is continuing,” said the chief.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact Detective Simonelli at 737-3100.
