These girls are great runners. How so?
Put it this way: the Hopewell Valley Central High School girls spring track team has had so many undefeated seasons in a row that no one knows how many seasons in a row it has been. They have faced down history. Yeah! That’s from the school district’s longtime athletic director, Kiki Enderle. Dynasty stuff.
”These girls have made an unbelievable commitment and dedication to our athletic program,” Ms. Enderle declared with pride at Monday night’s school board meeting.
At that heavily attended gathering, the girls indoor (winter) track, spring track and lacrosse teams were honored. Team members were given framed plaques and standing ovations by board members, school administrators and dozens of parents, relative and district residents.
The girls spring track team also is the reigning Colonial Valley Conference (CVC) champion and has won the Mercer County championship the last five years in a row and won the Central Jersey sectional championship the past four years in a row.
The girls indoor track team, which has a winter season, has many members in common with the spring team. This year, the indoor team set the very impressive standard of wining the State Relays seven years in a row.
No other team in the state ever has won the relays that many times in a row. As Ms. Enderle noted, this is an accomplishment of an unusually high order.
In addition, the indoor team won its second straight Individual State meet this year, its fourth straight Mercer County championship and its first state sectional championship. The team’s coach, Aaron Oldfield, was named Coach of the Year by the Newark Star-Ledger.
The girls lacrosse team had a great season as well, winning the 2008 Mercer County Championship and the Group II South sectional championship.
