Police and the FBI are looking for the person who robbed the Bank of America branch inside the Pennington ShopRite of more than $7,500 on Tuesday.
No weapon was displayed by the robber, who gave a teller a note demanding money, Hopewell Township police Chief George Meyer said Tuesday night.
The teller complied and the thief left the store, which is located at the Pennington Circle in Hopewell Township about a mile south of Pennington.
Police do not know in which direction the robber left the store or in what kind of vehicle.
The robber appeared to be an African-American woman in her early 30s, about 5 feet-8 inches tall, of medium build and with dark brown hair believed to be a wig. She was wearing a multicolored striped long-sleeved top, black slacks and oversized mirrored sunglasses.
Police responded to the bank robbery report at 4:05 p.m. The chief said other customers in the bank area and supermarket were unaware the robbery was taking place as it transpired.
The robbery is being investigated by Detective Kevin Zorn of the Hopewell Township Police Department along with agents from the Trenton office of the FBI.
Anyone who witnessed the robbery or has information concerning it is asked to contact Detective Zorn at 737-3100.
