A 19-year-old Avenel man was arrested on June 23 for allegedly videotaping a female student as she used the women’s bathroom in the Main Hall at Middlesex County College in Edison.

The investigation is still ongoing into whether Adrian Vasquez videotaped other female students that same day (June 23) as well as on previous occasions, authorities said.

Vasquez, who has been a full-time student at the college since the fall of 2007, was charged with invasion of privacy, a third-degree crime, criminal trespass, a fourth-degree crime, as well as burglary, a third-degree crime, authorities said.

Through investigation by the Middlesex County College police and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Unit, authorities learned that Vasquez entered the women’s bathroom at approximately 9 a.m. on June 23 and occupied a bathroom stall.

A female student at the college told police she subsequently used an adjacent bathroom stall and realized that Vasquez was possibly videotaping her. She reported the incident immediately to police, and Vasquez was arrested shortly thereafter.

Vasquez’s bail was set at $25,000 with no 10 percent option and he is currently being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in North Brunswick.
