Firefighter Henry Mertens of East Brunswick Independent Fire Company douses a 2002 Honda CRX that became engulfed in flames after it crashed on Ryders Lane near Innes Road at 2:14 a.m. June 21. Police, who found the vehicle unoccupied, determined that Ravi Kandala, 22, of East Brunswick, had been driving south when the car veered off Ryders Lane and struck two telephone poles and a brick retaining wall. Police said they located Kandala, the son of the registered owner, at his residence later that day and arrested him on an unrelated warrant. They also issued summonses for reckless driving, failure to report an accident and leaving the scene of an accident. No injuries were sustained in the accident, which was investigated by Patrolman Alex Todoroff.
