Man charged with shoplifting expensive wines and liquors

EDISON – A Brooklyn, N.Y., man was arrested after allegedly being caught with several bottles of very expensive alcoholic drinks from Costco on Route 27 on July 2.

According to Lt. Joseph Shannon, Edison police public information officer, around 4:50 p.m. a man later identified as Mark Yakubov, 37, walked into Costco with a black backpack.

Store security began watching him and, according to Shannon, they observed him placing several bottles of alcohol from the sales display into his bag.

Yakubov then allegedly went to the cashier to pay for other, less expensive items, and then exited without paying for the liquor.

Yakubov was stopped by security, and he allegedly had the liquor – five bottles of Cheval Blanc 2003, valued at $300 each, one bottle of Cheval Blanc 2004, valued at $265, and three bottles of Remy XO liqueur at $110 each, for a total value of approximately $2,100 – still in his bag.

Yakubov was charged with shoplifting and was lodged at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center.

His bail was set at $2,500.
