Residents may make use of town’s recycling center

The Manalapan Environmental Commission would like to introduce you to the best-kept secret in Manalapan: the recycling center in the public works yard on Route 522 (Freehold Englishtown Road).

Located just east of Tennent Road, the Battleground Deli and the Tennent Post Office, this facility accepts scrap metal, corrugated cardboard, plain paper and junk mail, car and household batteries, newspapers, cans and bottles, large appliances, clothing, and electronics.

So when you get that new TV, bring the box and the old TV for recycling. You’ll be keeping poisons out of the landfill, saving energy (and global warming gases), and saving the town landfill fees. Keep a paper bag under the sink and fill it with junk mail. The recycling center will take it.

Forgot to put out your cans and bottles on Wednesday? The recycling center will take them.

The recycling center is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Saturday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. If you have an item someone else can use, try listing it on Freecycle (groups.yahoo.com/group/ FreeholdNJFreecycle). It’s like eBay, but the only payment you get is the satisfaction of knowing that someone is making use of an item that otherwise would have gone to the landfill. You list the item, someone replies, you put it out, they take it. It is that simple.

Remember, “Recycle! You Make a Difference!” Please keep that in mind in all that you do.
