Prospective members invited to artists meeting

The Suburban Artists Guild (SAG) of Central New Jersey will hold an open membership meeting at 1 p.m. Sept. 12 at the East Brunswick Public Library, Jean Walling Civic Center, Ryders Lane.

A light luncheon will be served. Adult artists of all ages and levels, beginner to professional, are welcome to attend and join the painting and drawing group. Membership dues will be collected at the meeting.

SAG is an informal organization that focuses on helping artists exchange ideas, while presenting them with technical, theoretical and historical aspects of art. Meetings are held 2-4 p.m. on the second Friday of every month at the East Brunswick Public Library. Guests view demonstrations in varied media by prominent artists and participate in mini-workshops and periodic plein-air painting groups. Artists may participate in group exhibits at various locations throughout the area and will occasionally have opportunities to have their artwork critiqued by group members or visiting experts.

Approximately 20 SAG members participated in the recent Senior Art Contest at the Milltown Senior Center. Artists receiving honors included: Margaret Mc- Crary-Anderson, first place, professional, oil; Robert Heyer, first place, professional, watercolor; Allie Skislak, first prize, nonprofessional, drawing; Hira Beltangdi, first prize, nonprofessional, multimedia; Grace Chiarella, first prize, nonprofessional, watercolor; Helen Plank, second prize, nonprofessional, pastel; Daisy Zager, second prize, nonprofessional, multimedia; Loretta Brower, honorable mention, nonprofessional, watercolor. First-place winners in Middlesex County have their artwork on display at the statewide Senior Citizen Art Show through Sept. 26 in Building No. 1 at the Flemington County Complex, Route 12. A reception and award ceremony for state winners is set for 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Sept. 26.

SAG member Margaret McCrary-Anderson received first prize for her watercolor in the recent 19th annual juried art show sponsored by the Piscataway Township Cultural Arts Commission.
