The journey by Donald Trump to Colts Neck to rescue the Shadow Isle Golf Club serves to once again energize my belief that the entrepreneurial genius of Donald Trump should be asked to come to the rescue of Marlboro in bringing to fruition the disposition of the 411 acres of the former Marlboro State Psychiatric Hospital on Route 520.
As a former Marlboro councilman and having been at the original negotiating table with New Jersey’s Treasury Department during 1998-99, discussing Marlboro’s original letter of intent to purchase the hospital property, the township suffered the slings and arrows of outrageous and ambiguous delays in securing a clarity of purpose from Trenton.
Added to these obstacles was the ongoing infighting between conflicting advocacy groups who were then and still are to this day, unable to come to terms with their diversified and opposing agendas.
Ten years and countless consultant fees later, together with the advent of three different municipal administrations, Marlboro has been unable to deal with impasses that, in my mind, more than ever cry out for the talents of the likes of a Donald Trump.
