LONG BRANCH — Two adults and one juvenile are facing charges for the alleged armed robbery of a Long Branch grocery store.
Police responded to a Joline Avenue grocery store after a report of an armed robbery on Sept. 18 and learned that a male walked into the store at approximately 11:10 a.m. with a handgun and demanded the cash from the register, according to police reports.
The victim told police that the accused male’s face was partially covered with the front of his T-shirt. The man took an undisclosed amount of cash from the register and then ordered the store worker at gunpoint to turn around.
Police said the accused then took the employee’s wallet from his pants pocket and exited the store. He fled the scene in an unknown direction on foot.
There were no other patrons in the store at the time of the robbery and the victim didn’t sustain any injuries from the incident, according to reports.
The subsequent investigation led to the arrest of two adults and one juvenile; the investigation was centered on proceeds from the robbery.
On Sept. 19, police arrested and charged Omatie L. Oghoghomeh, 18, of Neptune, with conspiracy to commit robbery, fraud, receiving stolen property, possession of stolen property and theft by deception. Bail was set at $144,000 with no 10-percent option.
On Sept. 23, the Elizabeth Police Department assisted members of the Long Branch Police Department Major Crimes Unit in the arrest of Tyres T. Polen Jr., 21, of Elizabeth.
Polen is being charged with robbery, possession of a weapon, unlawful possession of a weapon, and certain persons not to be in possession of a firearm. His bail was set at $155,000 with no 10-percent option.
Police also charged a 17-year-old Neptune resident with receiving stolen property. The juvenile was released to a parent pending a court hearing.
