Mrs. Scala, 82 of Spotswood, died Oct. 7, 2008, at home. Raised in Staten Island, she lived in Perth Amboy and Forked River before settling in Spotswood in 2003. Mrs. Scala was a homemaker. Her husband, Erasmus, died in 1979; her son, Daniel, in 1993; and her longtime companion, Carmine Gambino, in 2003. Surviving are her sons, Tony Scala and his wife, Patricia, of Cliffwood Beach, and Joseph Scala and his wife, Marylou, of Sebastian, Fla.; his daughters, Patricia Iwanski of Perth Amboy, Margaret Bushman and her husband, Gerald, of Carteret, Grace Asch and her fiancé, Richard Bowie, of Spotswood, Cynthia Scala and her husband, Angelo Micalizzi, of Naples, Fla., Jean Coccaro ad her husband, James, of South Plainfield and Theresa Scala of Seaside Heights; ten grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Holy Trinity Church, Helmetta, followed by private cremation.
