Mr. Fitzgerald, 82, a resident of East Brunswick for 52 years, died Oct. 20, 2008, at Saint Peter’s University Hospital in New Brunswick. Prior to his retirement in 1992, he was president of his own insurance brokerage firm in New York City. Mr. Fitzgerald was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Joan Blank Fitzgerald; five children, Lynn Alvarez and her husband, Oscar, and Megan DiGeronimo and her husband, Gene, all of East Brunswick, Shawn and his wife, Suzy, of Highlands, Leo and his wife, Barbara, of East Brunswick, and Paul and his wife, Lori, of Hillsborough; and 13 grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, East Brunswick, followed by interment at Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick. Memorial donations may be made to St. Bartholomew’s School, 470 Ryders Lane, East Brunswick. Arrangements were by the Brunswick Memorial Funeral Home, East Brunswick.
