MONTGOMERY MIDGETS
The Montgomery Midgets secured their place in the MVC championship game with a 22-6 victory over a strong Flemington squad. The Wildcats opened the scoring in the first quarter by driving 40 yards behind the tough inside running of Brian Mayer and Ryan Boyle. The drive was capped off with a 4-yard touchdown run by Boyle.
The Montgomery defense took over on Flemington’s next possession. After forcing the Falcons into a third-and-long situation, Josh Reinson picked off a Flemington pass and returned it 37 yards for a touchdown. The Wildcats ran the lead to 22-0 early in the second half when Boyle took a pitch from quarterback Ben Kalan and hit Reinson with a 30-yard halfback option pass for the score.
As has been the case all season, this victory was a total team effort. Eric Finley, Hanson Koota, Harry August, Adam Koel and Nick Mertz opened the holes for the running game. The defense was led by the outstanding play of nose guard Michael Boyer, linebackers Jake Colangelo and Boyle, as well as ends Tyler Ajamian and Owen Tollefson. Arie Gutman, Mayer, Nick Dameo, Reinson, Kalan, Greg Hilkert, and Zach Slotkin each contributed with multiple tackles as well. Finley and Dameo also made significant contributions on special teams.
The Midgets will face the Del Val Dawgs in the MVC championship game on Sunday at 4 p.m. at Hillsborough High School. The winner advances to the Pop Warner Eastern Regional Playoffs.
MONTY JR. MIDGETS
The Montgomery Wildcats Jr. Midgets were defeated by the Flemington Falcons, 28-6. Despite some good tackling by Jared Dellaratta, Austin James, Sam Oltmans, Josh Lipowski, Sean Obrien, Angelo Colarusso and Wade Baldwin, the Wildcats were unable to prevent the Falcons from scoring at the end of the first quarter.
During the second quarter, the defensive line of Oltmans, Dellaratta, Jacob Jakubski, Ryan Gorman and Ryan Sohmer held the Falcons to one additional score.During the second half, Lucas Peterhans and Ryan Disdier each stopped the Falcons with some good tackling, and Lipowski recovered a fumble. After a Falcons kickoff, Baldwin returned the ball for nearly 50 yards. C.J. Gatt blocked an extra point. With three minutes remaining in the game, Nico Sferra ran the ball for a first down and then Baldwin completed a long pass to Oltmans for a Wildcats touchdown.
MONTY PEE WEES
The Montgomery Wildcat Pee Wees lost a close contest to the Flemington Falcons, 12-6. Monty’s defense, led by Devon Meadows, Joey Detorrice, Jake Bobal, Brett Ajamian and Joseph Gallagher, held Flemington to a scoreless first half.
After Flemington took a 6-0 lead late in the third quarter, Monty mounted a drive of its own thanks to runs by Trevor Schmidt, Guy Depersia and Devon Meadows. Monty tied the game early in the fourth quarter on a nifty touchdown run by Meadows. Flemington scored the winning touchdown with 42 seconds left in the game.
MONTY JR. PEE WEES
The Montgomery Wildcats Junior Pee Wees closed out the 2008 season at 5-3 with a 14-0 loss to the Flemington Falcons. Flemington took advantage of good field position to take an early lead and added a fourth quarter touchdown to end the Wildcats season.
Montgomery had trouble moving the ball consistently all day against a stingy Flemington defense but showed some flashes in the running game behind Dan Mayo, Jared Reinson, Greg Shiffner and Mitchell Chuganov. The Wildcat defense kept the game close thanks to strong efforts from Gavin Sudano, Arjun Alwis, Brandon Szigeti, Ryan Murphy, Taylor Gatt, Austin Kelley, Anthony Lopresti and Jack Bosken. August Rohmeyer forced a fumble on the final Flemington possession that was recovered by Jake DeMato, however the Wildcats were unable to capitalize as time expired.
MONTY MITEY MITES
The Montgomery Mitey Mite team was victorious in their final game of the season, defeating Flemington, 13-12. Joe Demato was spectacular at quarterback, connecting on two long passes — one to Mike Patrizio and one to Zach Masessa. The ground game was solid with strong performances from Liam Fitzgerald, Brendan Tscherne, Mike Patrizio and Zach Masessa.
Throughout the year Montgomery relied on a strong defense and Sunday was no different. Legendary defensive efforts were put forth by Kevin McLester, Dante Musto, Kyle Marrapodi, Ryan Tollefson and Sam Heldberg.
MONTY GREEN FLAG
The Montgomery Wildcats Green Flag team hosted Flemington in the season finale on Sunday. The rushing attack, led by Emmanuel Perera, Lucas Kopecky, Cole Sudano, Timmy Lavake and Joshua Perera, racked up 296 yards on 20 plays, including five touchdowns. Once again, the Wildcat offensive line paved the way for the rushing attack. Ryan Furey, Ryan Capuzzi, Jackson Ramirez, Lee Poirier, J.J. Miller, Shaan Nerurkar, Jack Holodinski, and Tom Beller all contributed with crushing blocks.
The Wildcats once again played tough defense. Ramirez and Poirier each had three sacks each. Sudano, Capuzzi, Kopecky, Furey, Lavake and Joshua Perera all contributed with several key tackles. Emmanuel Perera had an interception late in the second half to seal the game.
MONTY YELLOW FLAG
The Montgomery Wildcat Yellow flag team ended an awesome season with another hard fought victory this past Sunday against the Flemington Falcons. As has been the team’s norm, they won with great defense and a very strong second half.
Montgomery opened the scoring in the first half with Will Marrapodi’s 23-yard quarterback boot leg, but Flemington scored twice in the first half leaving the Wildcats down a score at the break. But Montgomery’s defense took charge in the second half led by great defensive plays by Ptrick Whalen, Kevin Frommelt, Danny Boyer and Jarred Golibitsky. Montogmery then proceeded to score three times to take the game.
The first score was scored on a 40-yard power run by Harrison Imran. Then Ricky Erbeck darted 27 yards, led by the blocking of Cade Guidette and Anthony DiTorrice. The final score on the last play of the season was on a beautiful 13-yard screen play from Jack Erbeck to Max Drift.
