‘Homenajes’ next up for Alborada dancers

The Piscataway Cultural Arts Commission will host the premiere of Alborada Spanish Dance Theatre’s “Homenajes,” a tribute to the works of Federico Garcia Lorca, Jose Greco and Maria Alba, at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 6 at Piscataway High School, Patton Building Auditorium, 100 Behmer Road.

Alborada created “Homenajes” as an exploration of Spain’s cultural history from the 1930s-1960s, using dance, music and poetry. The production also is a tribute to three exponents of Spanish arts and culture: Federico Garcia Lorca, Spain’s poet laureate who was killed by the Civil Guard at the onset of the Spanish Civil War; Jose Greco, an icon of Spanish classical and regional dance and theater pieces; and Maria Alba, the mentor and co-founder of Alborada Spanish Dance Theatre.

The dance company is offering special holiday ticket pricing for the production — $12 per person for adults, $10 for seniors and students. To order tickets, call the Alborada box office at 732-416-1647 or mail a ticket order to Alborada Spanish Dance Theatre, 55 Piersoll Road, Old Bridge, NJ 08857, Attn.: Homenajes.

The program has been made possible in part by funds from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment of the Arts, through a grant provided by the Middlesex County Cultural and Heritage Commission/Board of Chosen Freeholders; the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation; and the American Music Center.
