Dance majors present dance concert

LITTLE SILVER — Red Bank Regional High School dance majors will present “A Winter Dance Concert” on Friday, Jan. 30, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 31, at 2 p.m. at the high school, 101 Ridge Road in Little Silver.

Tickets are $10 and $5 for students and senior citizens at the door. The show features a variety of dance styles, including jazz, tap, hip-hop, ballet, Irish step and more.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the RBR Visual and Performing Arts Academy (VPA).

Dance teacher Dorianne Murray and 42 dance majors have planned a special performance inviting two VPA alumni and professional dancers to choreograph dance numbers. Both are graduates of the prestigious performing arts program at Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University.

Lawrence Edwards, class of 1999, a professional dancer and dance studio owner, has created a modern piece with tribal overtones called “The Escape.”

Jessica Smith, class of 2003, has choreographed a contemporary piece titled “Black Out.”

As is the tradition at all VPA dance performances, students (predominately seniors) will choreograph the remaining 19 numbers.
