The Immaculate Conception Youth Organization (ICYO) of Spotswood is hosting a boys and girls Valentine’s Day Basketball Tournament starting Feb. 15. The event will be held in the school gymnasium located at 23 Manalapan Road, Spotswood, New Jersey.

The tournament divisions include third and fourth grade, fifth and sixth grade, and seventh and eighth grade. Entry fee includes each participant receiving a T-shirt, and trophies will be awarded to the first-, second- and third-place winners and MVPs in each division.

The Middlesex County Department of Parks and Recreation is seeking teams for its annual Board of Chosen Freeholders Basketball Tournament, which starts March 2.

This year’s tournament will be held at the Middlesex County Vocational School, 21 Sutton Lane, Piscataway. This singleelimination tournament will consist of four divisions: Youth Division No.1 (boys and girls age 10 and under), Youth Division No. 2 (boys and girls age 12 and under), Youth Division No. 3 (boys and girls ages 13 and 14), and Youth Division No. 4 (boys and girls ages 15-17).

Registration, a $50 per-team entry fee and team rosters are due Feb. 20.

The Sayreville Recreation Wrestling team entered the Randy Gemgnani Annual Bearcat Wrestling A&B Tournament on Saturday, Dec. 27. The coaches for that day were Frank Roman, Phil Bouchard, Paul Munier, Joe Mascali and Mark Mastorio.

The wrestlers who took first place were Anthony Porcaro, Ralph Feola and Jacob White. Placing second were Connor Bouchard, Alec Coelho, Kyle Cruz, Patrick Okie, Michael Porcaro and Trevor Mastorio. Third-place finishes went to Tayler O’Neill, Dylan Alves, Tommy Fulbrook, Timothy Hoffman, Matthew Okie and Kyle Wavro, while fourth-place finishes went to Hunter Knoth, Corey Knoth and Franky Roman. Also wrestling for Sayreville that day were Brandon Alicea, Brett Dzamba, Cody O’Neill and Dylan Taillefer.

Congratulations also go out to the B Team, who took home the second-place trophy as a team.

Spotswood Recreation will be accepting registrations for the 2009 T-ball and girls travel softball programs at the Spotswood Municipal Building on Saturday, Jan. 31, from noon to 2 p.m. and on Saturday, Feb. 7, from noon to 1:30 p.m.

T-ball is for boys and girls ages 4-6 and costs $15 for Spotswood residents and $20 for non-residents. Spotswood residents are given first priority for sign-up.

Girls travel softball is for girls ages 5- 15 and costs $25 for Spotswood residents and $35 for nonresidents.

A 13U travel baseball team playing in the Central Jersey area is seeking pitchers. Must be born after April 30, 1995. Tryouts will be held Saturday, Jan. 31, at 3 p.m. The team is beginning winter training and will play in a spring travel baseball league, including tournaments. Needed are quality pitchers who want to play on a competitive team. A couple of slots are still available, since the team keeps a small roster of committed kids to maximize playing time. Madison Park Girls Softball League would like to announce its final in-person registration dates for the 2009 season. Inperson registration will take place on Friday, Jan. 30, 6:30-8:30 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Madison Park Little League field house located on Cheesequake Road in the Parlin section of Old Bridge. (The field house is located behind the Madison Park Firehouse).

Registration will also take place at the Old Bridge Public Library, Route 516, 6- 8:30 p.m. Feb. 4.

Open registration will continue until draft night. Teams will be drafted in mid- February. Registrations can also be mailed in. Applications can be downloaded from the league’s Web site at www.mpgsl.com.

Those registering must bring a copy of the player’s birth certificate if they are new to the league. Applications will be available. The fee is $100 per player, $135 for two or more players.

Girls between the ages of 5 and 17 can play.
