MOUNT HOLLY The man charged in the murder of his two co-workers at a local horse farm is being held on $2 million bail, officials confirmed Tuesday.
Carlos Reyes, 41, was charged March 6 with two counts of knowing and purposeful murder. He appeared in court Monday, but officials could not confirm published reports stating that Mr. Reyes provided the prosecutor’s office with a videotaped confession that he murdered Honduras natives Alex Aguilar, 29, and Marcial Morales-Maldonado, 48.
Mr. Reyes’ brother, 38-year-old Cesar Reyes, was charged as a material witness and appeared in court Friday. He is being held on $1 million bail, officials confirmed.
The two victims were killed after an alcohol-fueled altercation the evening of Feb. 26, officials said previously. A female farm employee found their bodies outside their living quarters around dawn Feb. 28, and officials have listed the cause of death as “massive head trauma caused by hacking and cutting, consistent with machete.”
The two men were undocumented immigrants who worked with the Reyes brothers at Sterling Chase Farm on Highland Road, according to officials.
The Reyes brothers were taken into custody March 3, and officials have said they are not in the country legally.
They previously left New Jersey by bus March 1, and were intercepted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the U.S. Marshal’s Office in Houston, according to State Police.
State police reported discovering a machete they believe to be the murder weapon on the 118-acre farm on March 6.
