Conor Myhrvold, left, vice president of the Princeton University Chess Club, and David Wang, the club’s president, are appealing to chess enthusiasts at all levels of skill to participate in a special charity chess tournament on Sunday, April 19, to raise much-needed funds for HomeFront’s children’s programs. The event will take place in The Nassau Inn, which is providing its facilities, which include lunch. The club is providing all boards, pieces, clocks and tournament software. The tournament will run four games to decide the trophy winner by the Swiss method. For more information or to register, call HomeFront at 609-989-9417, ext. 107, by the registration deadline of April 12. HomeFront is reporting a 34 percent increase in local families of the working poor who have become homeless or at serious risk of becoming so. The agency provides several ongoing programs for the children in these families, including shelter, pre-K, tutoring and literacy programs, after-school programs and job readiness training for teenagers.
