Daniel Joseph O’Hern

Mr. O’Hern, 78, of Red Bank, died April 1, 2009, at home, following a battle with cancer. He was appointed special ethics counsel to Gov. Richard J. Codey in 2004 and returned to private practice as counsel to the firm of Becker Meisel, Livingston. He was appointed to the N.J. Supreme Court in 1981 and served for 19 years. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara Ronan O’Hern; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Daniel and Debbie O’Hern Jr. of Little Silver, James O’Hern of Little Silver, and John O’Hern of Hoboken; two daughters and sons-in-law, Eileen O’Hern Luby and Bill of Rumson, and Molly O’Hern Wallace and Mark of Evergreen, Colo.; two sisters, Eugenia Witterschein and Catharine O’Hern; a brother, Dr. J. Henry O’Hern Jr.; and eight grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. James Roman Catholic, Red Bank. Arrangements were by Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank.
