VSA arts to observe Autism Awareness Month

VSA arts of New Jersey, New Brunswick, is observing Autism Awareness Month during April by encouraging the community to contact the organization to learn about its services for children with autism and register for upcoming programs.

VSA’s parent/child workshops in the arts provide opportunities for children with autism age 3-17, along with parents and siblings, to take part in art and music/movement classes. The series are held in the fall and spring in Middlesex County. VSA also offers the inclusive arts program for youth age 13 and older with autism spectrum disorder, and their peers without disabilities. Participants explore the arts while developing strong developmental skills and self esteem. Ten-week workshops are now being offered in New Brunswick, and resume in the fall. Deadline to register is April 15.

The annual Partners in the Arts Festival will be 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. June 3 at Middlesex County College, Edison. It provides opportunities for children and adults with and without disabilities to engage in a celebration of the arts. It will feature performances, exhibits, arts workshops and other activities. Registration deadline is April 15. To register or for more information, call 732-745-3885 or the TTY at 732-745-3913 or visit www.vsanj.org.
