On behalf of our 1.4 million members in the Garden State, AARP New Jersey applauds the Senate for passing the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act, a bill that will strengthen and expand civic engagement and volunteer opportunities for people of all ages. New Jerseyans should know that both Sens. Frank Lautenberg and Robert Menendez voted in favor of the bill.
The Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act will strengthen and expand civic engagement and volunteer opportunities to include social services, environment, health, care giving, nurturing, mentoring, intergenerational solutions, education, economic development and community development.
AARP is particularly pleased that the bill will improve service opportunities for persons age 50 and over so that they can apply a lifetime of acquired skills to help remedy a range of identified service needs.
