Brio Symphonic Band concert July Fourth

The Metuchen Cultural Arts Commission will present the Brio Symphonic Band in an Independence Day concert at 5:30 p.m. July 4, on the Metuchen High School lawn, 400 Grove Ave., Metuchen. There will be marches, patriotic selections, vocal and trumpet soloists, folk music and other traditional and classic band music.

The band’s membership consists of members of the Central New Jersey Musician’s Union, Local 202-373 AFM, and Edward Logue of Metuchen, former supervisor of music and band director at Metuchen High School, will conduct the band.

Barbara Jeanne Smith, protégé of opera singer Jerome Hines and graduate of the Juilliard School of Music and Westminster Choir College, will sing a variety of popular selections. Principal trumpet player David Schneck will perform “Tramp, Tramp, Tramp.” He has also studied at the Juilliard School of Music.

The concert is free, but attendees should bring a lawn chair or a blanket, and are welcome to picnic during the program. In case of rain, the program will be held in the Metuchen High School auditorium. For more information, call 732-632-8502.
