MANVILLE: Barry’s Appliance enjoyed big year

Final two losses can’t spoil fun

Barry’s Appliance baseball team finished the season 9-2-1 after losing the final two games to the Somerville Angels. The team started out hot and was undefeated through 10 games but just couldn’t get any offense or defense together the final two games. But it was a great season anyway.
”Playing the whole season with 14 players in the line-up and finishing with the record that we did says a lot about every player on the team,” said manager Gregg Snyder, who also wished to thank his coaching staff of co-manager Katie Ader, coaches Kenny Schaefer and Neil Warren and scorebook keeper Judy Miller. “I would also like to thank the parents for all their support this season. It was great.”
The team consisted of 12-year-olds Max Miller, Kyle Puza, Erik Warren, Jared Matisak, Doug Moreno, Tristan Jamie and newcomer Mike Kassick and 11-year-olds Paul Basta, AJ Kerrigan, Codey Keimig, Chris Garcia, David Rubin, Stephan Nash and Mark Mihalko.
Team batting leaders for the 12-year-olds included Warren .556., Miller .533 and Puza .483. Leading 12-year-old hitters were Miller (16), Warren (15) and Puza (14). Top 12-year-old RBI guys were Puza and Warren with 13 apiece and Miller with 11. Puza led the team with five doubles and Kassick finished with four triples.
For the 11-year-olds, Stephan Nash led the way with a .412 average, followed by Garcia (.400) and Basta (.346). In hits, Basta had nine to lead all 11-year-olds, while Garcia (8) and Nash (7) were next. Chris Garcia had the most RBI (8), while Basta, Nash and Kerrigan each had 10 walks.
Miller went 4-1 with 60 strikeouts in 35 innings to lead the pitching staff. Puza was 2-0-1 with 40 strikeouts in 24 innings, Basta was 2-0 with nine strikeouts in seven innings and Kassick went 1-1 with six strikeouts in six innings
