Mrs. Hammerschmidt, 89, a resident of Millstone Township for 50 years, died Aug. 1, 2009, at The Manor Nursing Home in Freehold Township. Born in Austria, she was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Millstone and a member of the Millstone Senior Citizens. She is survived by her husband, George; two sons, Alfred Piff of Manalapan and Paul Hammerschmidt of New Egypt; and two daughters, Christine Griffin of Concord, N.H., and Janet Lewis of Cream Ridge; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Joseph’s Church in Millstone, followed by interment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.
