Carrie B. Newell

Mrs. Newell, 50, of Howell, died Aug.16, 2009, at University of Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia. She was raised in Howell and lived in Tottenville, Staten Island, before returning to Howell in 2003. Mrs. Newell, who received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Georgian Court University, was a special education teacher at Freehold Township High School, where she began her teaching career. Prior, she was a teacher, then principal, at Our Lady Help of Christians, Tottenville, Staten Island. She was predeceased by her father, Michael Dowd. Surviving are her husband of 23 years, Edward Newell; two daughters, Meghan and Shannon Newell of Howell; her mother and stepfather, Patricia and Phil Brunner of Manasquan; a brother, Michael Dowd of Salisbury, Vt.; three sisters, Tracy Mandara of Howell, Megan Dowd Gally of Lakewood and Moira Adams of Howell; and many nieces and nephews. A Rite of Committal was held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township. Interment was private.
