N.J. Blood Services will hold blood drive

New Jersey Blood Services (NJBS), a division of New York Blood Center, will conduct a blood drive from 2:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 28 at the Ocean County Mall, 1201 Hooper Ave., Toms River.

Rh-negative blood is particularly needed, but healthy people of all blood types and ethnicities are encouraged to donate to help make certain that the region is prepared for predictable blood needs and any unexpected contingencies.

Community organizations, places of worship, businesses or individuals may host a blood drive. The New York Blood Center also offers community service scholarships for students who organize community blood drives during the summer.

Blood donors receive free mini-medical exams on site including information about their temperature, pulse rate, blood pressure and hemoglobin level. Eligible donors include individuals at least age 16 (with parental permission or consent), who weigh a minimum of 110 pounds, are in good health and meet all Food and Drug Administration and New York or New Jersey State Department of Health donor criteria. People over 75 may donate with a doctor’s note.
