Phillies jerseys to be auctioned

LAKEWOOD — On Aug. 31 the Lakewood BlueClaws and the American Cancer Society will present a unique opportunity for fans to bid on autographed jerseys from Philadelphia Phillies stars Ryan Howard, Cole Hamels, Shane Victorino and J.C. Romero, plus jerseys worn by current Lakewood BlueClaws players and coaches.

This event was originally scheduled for Aug. 23, but rain forced its cancellation.

Howard, the 2006 National League Most Valuable Player, played with the BlueClaws in 2002. Hamels, the 2008 World Series MVP, played for the BlueClaws in 2003. Victorino rehabbed with Lakewood in 2007 and Romero did the same in 2009.

The auction will commence at the conclusion of that evening’s 7:05 p.m. game and will be held right on the field.

Tickets for the all-you-can-eat buffet are $24.95 for adults and $16.95 for children. They can be purchased through the American Cancer Society at 732-818-3517, ext. 22. All net proceeds from the event will go to the American Cancer Society’s “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” program.

The Lakewood BlueClaws, a Class A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, have made the South Atlantic League playoffs for the second time in franchise history.

Lakewood took over first place on May 11 and has led the overall standings since the beginning of the second half of the season.
