Stem-cell donor sought; fundraiser set

A dinner to benefit Mitchell Brown, a young East Brunswick father who is suffering from non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, will be held 6-9:30 p.m. Oct. 7 at the Pines Manor, Edison.

Cost is $50 per person. All proceeds will go to the Brown family to help defray medical and personal expenses.

The evening will feature hors d’oeuvres, a three-course sit-down dinner, entertainment and a silent auction. All costs for the dinner will be donated by the Pines.

Checks should be made payable to Mitchell Brown, with Oct. 7 indicated on the memo line, and sent to P.O. Box 6355, East Brunswick, NJ 08816.

A compatible stem-cell donor also must be found. Potential donors may call Lab Corp (1-800-533-1037) and ask to be tested as a possible donor for Mitchell Brown. Results will then be forwarded to Hackensack University Medical Center. The test involves having the inside of one’s cheek swabbed. Individuals who have already been tested through a national registry such as the Gift of Life or the National Marrow Donor Program may ask to have their HLA typing (match probability) faxed directly to Carolanne Carini, transplant coordinator, Hackensack University Medical Center, at 201-996-5691.
