The Diocese of Metuchen will celebrate its fifth annual Red Mass on Sunday, Nov. 1, at St. Bartholomew Church, 470 Ryders Lane, East Brunswick. The 11 a.m. liturgy will be celebrated by the Most Rev. Paul G. Bootkoski, Bishop of the Diocese of Metuchen, who will also deliver the homily.
In conjunction with the Red Mass, which honors all those in the judicial system and legal profession, Judge Roger Daley will receive the diocese’s 2009 St. Thomas More Award. It will be presented at a brunch to be held after the Mass at the East Brunswick Chateau, 678 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick.
The St. Thomas More Award is given to Catholic attorneys or judges for their dedication to the ideals embodied by Sir Thomas More. More was executed during the reign of King Henry VIII for refusing to acknowledge the authority of King Henry over that of the pope in what would become the Church of England.
Tickets for the brunch are $50 per person.
