Millstone Elks Lodge No. 2613 will hold a basketball free throw shooting contest 8:30 a.m. Nov. 21 at the Millstone Primary School on Schoolhouse Lane.

Registration for the “hoop shoot,” which is open to boys and girls ages 8-13, will begin at 8:30 a.m.

The competition will be broken into three age groups: 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13. The participant’s age as of April 1 will determine the competition age.

The three boys and three girls that make the most baskets in their respective age group will advance to the district contest and compete against the winners from the other eight lodges in the south central district. The winners of the district contest will compete in the state contest and then the regional contest to be held in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and finally the national contest in Springfield, Mass.

Women’s Professional Soccer champion Sky Blue FC will host the 2009 WinterFest 1-3 p.m. Dec. 6 at Yurcak Field on the campus of Rutgers University in Piscataway. The free two-hour event features a free coaching clinic and season ticket select-a-seat.

Members of the Sky Blue FC coaching staff will be on hand to conduct the training session for interested players, giving them the unique experience of participating in the same system as the 2009 WPS champions. At the conclusion of the clinic, coaches and staff of the team will participate in a special meetand greet session.

Along with discounted merchandise on sale, fans will also be able to personally select their season ticket seats for the 2010 season.

The annual “Used and New Tack Sale” will be held rain or shine from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 22 at the Horse Park of New Jersey. Admission is free. The event will be held on Turkey Trot day, a Horse Park fundraiser.

Four members of the boys’ team from Classic Gymnastics Academy of Marlboro competed in the Future Stars National Championships held Oct. 12 in Pennsylvania. The top six athletes of each age group qualify to be members of the USAG Junior National Development team. Dimitry Pressimone of Marlboro won first place in the 8-9-year-old group and Matthew Rusch of Eatontown took fifth place in the 11-year-old group. Parker Adamo of Millstone Township placed seventh in the 11-year-old group and Taylor Chatlos of Old Bridge placed 12th overall in the 11-year-old group, just missing the cutoff for qualification.
