Somerset ARC to Start Youth Council Meetings

Somerset County American Red Cross
SOMERVILLE, N.J., December 17, 2009 – The Greater Somerset County Chapter of the American Red Cross is working to build connections across all age ranges by establishing the chapter’s first Youth Council, a group that will be tailored to high school age volunteers in the community.
The monthly meetings will engage younger members of the Red Cross Community in Somerset County.  The council offers youth the chance to help the mission of Red Cross with fellow volunteers, work on essential leadership skills as well as learn live saving skills.  While at Youth Council, participants will work on Red Cross projects and receive guidance from senior staff and guest speakers.
Suzanne Anderson, Director of Volunteers, said the involvement in Youth Council can help strengthen the relationship between young volunteers and the organization. “The Youth are the future of the Red Cross and with leadership training we are preparing our future volunteers.”

The meetings are scheduled for the second Thursday of every month from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will begin Thursday, January 14, 2010.  The first meeting will be a general orientation to the American Red Cross.  For more information, contact Suzanne Anderson at (908)-725-2217 ext. 222.
