NOTESAround Town

U.S. Marines accepted a donation for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve’s Toys for Tots program from students in Ranney School’s music honor society.

The students delivered more than 80 toys to the U.S. Marine Corps program office in Lincroft. As part of their first major community service project for the school year, members of Jr. Tri-M purchased toys that sang, played or just looked like music for the fourth annual Musical Toys for Tots Drive held at the school in Tinton Falls.

The service project began in November with the first middle school “Penny War” fundraiser, where students donated loose change over a two-week period and raised more than $1,500.

The Monmouth County Genealogy Society will meet Jan. 10 at the Community/ Senior Center, 72 Broad St., Eatontown. Gerald “Jerry” Smith will present “Bastards, Bridges and Bawdy Houses: Using Quarter Sessions Records for Genealogical Research.”

The awarding of prizes to the winners of the family history essay contest will precede the meeting at 1 p.m., followed by refreshments, and the meeting and talk at 2 p.m. The public is welcome to attend the free meeting and event.
