Shuler-Foster wins SC 55-meter dash

Ocean County’s best fared no better than Monmouth County’s best sprinters against Long Branch speedster Miles Shuler-Foster.

Just as he dismissed Monmouth’s best at last week’s Monmouth County Championships, Shuler-Foster did the same at the Shore Conference (SC) Championships Friday night at the John Bennett Indoor Complex in Toms River.

The Green Wave junior took just 6.41 seconds to cover the 55 meters. Last week, he won the dash in 6.50.

Brick Memorial’s Jihaad Howard was second (6.59).

According to the most recent performance lists, Shuler-Foster’s 6.41 is the fastest in the state in 2010.

Monmouth Regional’s Stephanie Skove also added a SC title to her county championship on Friday. She won the girls pole vault at 11-6. Besides being Skove’s best vault of the indoor season, it was equaled the second best clearance in the state.

Shore Regional’s Cameo Kirk ran third in the girls 400 (1:00.97). In the 3,200, Monmouth’s Megan Tursi took third (11:41.53). In the girls high jump, Monmouth’s Tiffani Lee was second (5-0) and Ocean’s Victoria Schroeter tied for third (5-0).

Long Branch’s Kevin Morris was second in the boys high jump (6-0). Ocean’s Daniel Pepitone was sixth in the shot put (43-11¾).

RBC fourth at Millrose Games

Up at NYC’s Madison Square Garden on Friday night, RBC’s boys had the privilege of competing at the Millrose Games in the Metro 4×800-meter relay. The Casey quartet of Rob Napolitano, Mike Quinn, Kyle Clonan and Kevin Byrne finished fourth in 8:11.60.

Byrne brought the Caseys from seventh place to fourth with the fastest leg of the meet, 1:56.6.

Christian Brothers Academy was also in the race. The Colts’ team of Dan Bailey, Rich Bohny, Dan Mykityshyn and Mark Lee finished second in 8:06.22.

The road to the Meet of Champions (MOC) begins this week (Feb. 3-7) with the NJSIAA State Sectionals back at the Bennett Complex.

The sectionals began on Wednesday with the North Jersey Section I and II Group III schools. Thursday it was the NJ Group IV schools.

Central and South Jersey Group IV compete Friday. Saturday, Central and South Jersey Group I, North Jersey Groups I and II are in action. Sunday, Central and South Jersey Groups II and III will close out the sectional meets.

The NJSIAA State Group Championships are Feb. 12-14 at the Bennett Complex. The MOC is Feb. 20 (boys at 10 a.m. and girls at 1 p.m.).
