Writer wants Ocean County freeholders to dip into surplus funds

On Feb. 3 at the public portion of the Ocean County Board of Freeholders meeting, I called upon Freeholder John Bartlett to eliminate the proposed $8 million-plus increase in county taxation by taking $9 million from the proposed $17 million plus county surplus.

Freeholder Bartlett declared that he would not do that. It is now up to the citizens and newspaper editorials to demand that he do it. Otherwise, we get the government we deserve.
