The KDM Foundation will sponsor the ninth annual Keith McHeffey 3 Mile Fun Run, which kicks off at 11 a.m. on Sunday, March 14.
Registration begins at 10 a.m. but because of a large turnout, preregistration is recommended by visiting www.raceforum.com/kdm/.
The Mad Hatter, located just steps from the finish line at 10 Ocean Ave. in Sea Bright, will once again host the post-race festivities.
Come out to participate in a fun race that supports a worthwhile mission.
The Keith McHeffey Foundation was created to keep the spirit of Keith McHeffey and other local victims of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001, alive through a variety of charitable functions.
The KDM 3 Mile Fun Run takes place the Sunday before St. Patrick’s Day in Sea Bright. Since the first race in 2002, there have been approximately 700 participants each year. The NYPD Bag Pipe and Drum Band has honored the KDM Foundation each year by beginning the race with a bagpipe tribute.
McHeffey was 31 and an equities trader with Cantor Fitzgerald when he was killed. A resident of Monmouth Beach, he was a graduate of Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School.
“Keith was a kind and giving person who will never be forgotten by his family or friends. Keith spent his life giving of himself to others. Now, we are giving back to the community in his good name,” the website states.
The foundation has created a permanent memorial to area victims in Memorial Field at Piping Rock Park in Rumson. The foundation also awards annual memorial scholarships in his name to students at RFH and has assisted many of the local youth sports programs including Fair Haven, Sea Bright and Rumson.
