RED BANK — Meridian Health, the county’s largest employer, has been recognized as one of the best companies to work for in the nation.
The health care provider based in Wall can now be counted among the corporate elite, ranking 79th on Fortune magazine’s 13th annual “100 Best Companies to Work For” list.
Meridian Health is made up of Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, Ocean Medical Center in Brick, K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Southern Ocean County Hospital in Manahawkin, and Meridian partner companies that include home health services, skilled nursing and rehabilitation centers, ambulatory care, ambulance services, as well as outpatient and occupational health centers.
According to a press release, to pick the 100 best companies, Fortune partners with the Great Place to Work Institute to conduct an extensive employee survey. Two-thirds of a company’s score is based on the results of the institute’s Trust Index survey, which is sent to a random sample of employees from each company. The survey asks questions related to their attitudes about the management’s credibility, job satisfaction, and camaraderie. The remaining third of the scoring is based on the company’s responses to the institute’s Culture Audit, which includes detailed questions about pay and benefit programs and a series of openended questions about hiring, communication and diversity.
“The most important considerations for this year’s list were hiring and the ways in which companies are helping their employees weather the recession,” Hank Gilman, deputy managing editor at Fortune, said in the press release.
Meridian’s website, www.meridianhealth. com, includes a mission statement: “We foster a culture of excellence within a collaborative environment. We actively seek innovative solutions, technologies and partnerships to support sustainable financial growth and to ensure communities we serve have access to a comprehensive continuum of integrated services that meet their present and future health care needs.”
Meridian Health President John K. Lloyd said the company “is honored to be included in this select group of companies.
“Providing the best experience for our patients begins by providing the best experience for our team members,” Lloyd said in the press release. “It is through our team members’ dedication and performance that Meridian Health is able to remain one of New Jersey’s top performing organizations.”
In addition to being named among the Fortune’s “100 Best Companies to Work For,” Meridian Health has also been named one of the “Best Places to Work in New Jersey” for five consecutive years, and was named New Jersey’s Outstanding Employer of the Year in 2003 and 2009.
