Capital costs tend to increase exponentially

Ido not find the modest increase in class sizes for Millstone Township schools as reported in the Examiner last week to be troubling.

Recent investments in technology should pay off in increased span of control for teachers and therefore larger class sizes should be possible with no degradation in pupil performance.

What I am concerned about is Board of Education President Tom Foley’s comments on no capital spending for the last three years. This is foolish. Capital costs tend to increase exponentially when maintenance is neglected. Why are there roof leaks, especially in the middle school? When I built my house, the roof came with a 20-year guarantee.
