JACKSON — Under the direction of Jazz Band Director Scott Katona, the Jackson Liberty High School Jazz Band won third place in its division at the New Jersey State Final Jazz Band Competition held at Princeton High School on April 24.
Zane Decker, electric bass guitar player, won his seventh consecutive Best Overall Solo Award. Gary Basko won the Best Overall Tenor Sax Soloist award.
This is the first time Jackson Liberty has made it to the state finals, according to a press release. Throughout this school year, the band has won multiple awards at numerous competitions, including best rhythm section, best horn section, best overall band, superior band, and Harvey Spinks won for Outstanding Musician.
