The 24th New Jersey Seafood Festival will be held June 11-13 in Silver Lake Park, between 5th and 6th Avenues in Belmar. This year the festival expands to Friday evening and includes chefs from 45 of the area’s finest restaurants and food vendors, entertainment, a wine tent, and a free trolley Saturday and Sunday making stops at the festival, the Belmar train station and the Belmar Marina parking lot. Admission is free. Hours are Friday 4-7 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., rain or shine.

Fort Monmouth seventh-grader Anna Grauel has been chosen as the second-place winner in the seventh- and eighth-grade category of the Armed Services YMCA’s annual Student Art & Essay Contest. She will be recognized at the Armed Services YMCA’s 23rd Annual Recognition Luncheon in Washington, D.C., and will receive a U.S. savings bond. Essay participants are asked to write about their military hero. Anna’s award-winning essay is about her father, Lt. Col. David Grauel, United States Army.
