Monmouth U. receives state arts award

WEST LONG BRANCH — Monmouth University’s Center of Distinction for the Arts has been designated a Major Presenting Organization by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts (NJSCA) for a history of excellence in substantial arts programming and contribution to increasing the quality of life in New Jersey, according to a press release from the university. The NJSCA held an awards reception on April 29 to recognize the work of Monmouth University.

This award is designated based on grant application review and conferred upon Monmouth University’s Center of Distinction for the Arts for the duration of the grant period for which Monmouth University’s Center of Distinction for the Arts provides an array of performances by nationally and internationally recognized artists in many disciplines including children’s musicals, family entertainment, concerts, dance recitals, cultural events, festivals, and special attractions, the press release notes. The university recently became a regional venue for live broadcasts of the Metropolitan Opera and National Theatre of London.

Monmouth also produces professional theater, features a visiting writers series, film festivals, continuous art exhibitions, student performances and more. Programs are complemented by artists’ residencies, questionand answer sessions, meet-and-greets, workshops, master classes, demonstrations and book signings.
