Senior Outreach Services helps seniors connect with assistance

PLUMSTED — The Plumsted Senior Outreach Services (SOS) will host a day for local seniors to receive free New Jersey Fresh Vouchers and to learn more about the Medicare Improvement for Patient Provider Act (MIPPA).

This event will be held July 23 in the senior meeting room on the lower level of the Plumsted municipal building, 121 Evergreen Road.

From 1-3 p.m. that same day, Community Services Inc. will host a free ice cream social for seniors. Jim Sigurdson will present a program overview of MIPPA. Free transportation is available through SOS. To schedule transportation, call the SOS office at 609- 758-2241, ext. 111, at least one week prior to the event.

“This event is a fine example of how SOS is helping local seniors to connect with needed services,” said Rosemary Ritter, SOS president. “We also provide free transportation for medical appointments and necessary errands, and host a Health Ease ‘Move Today’ exercise program. We provide referrals and information, participate in Project Lifesaver, and host many social activities and a monthly senior Live and Learn day.”

The SOS office is open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to noon.

SOS is a nonprofit organization run by more than 30 volunteers. The organization receives in-kind donations and support from Plumsted and its officials, a grant from the Ocean County Office of Senior Services, and donations. For further information regarding services, volunteer opportunities, or to make a donation, call 609-758-2241, ext. 111.
