Jackson panel members named

JACKSON — After some delay, the members of Jackson’s Going Green Committee have officially been appointed to terms that will end in June 2011.

The committee members were appointed by the Township Council during the Aug. 10 meeting of the governing body.

At a previous council meeting, Councilwoman Bobbie Rivere asked that the appointments be made quickly because the committee had projects it needed to undertake.

She asked that a resolution confirming the appointments be moved from the floor during the council’s July 27 meeting, but her request was denied.

Fellow council members denied that request, stating that a resolution was not available for the public to view prior to voting when moving the resolution from the floor.

At the Aug. 10 council meeting, the council unanimously approved the list of appointments.

Taking part in the Going Green Committee, according to the resolution, are residents Peggi Sturmfels, Eugene Quintieri, John Gaskill, Carol Lawrence, Gary Moliver, Dennis Kalichstein, Jay Himelstein, Richard Borys and Jan Haring.

There will also be a representative from Jackson Memorial High School and from Jackson Liberty High School, as well as two representatives from the Jackson Board of Education.

Rivere and Councilman Mike Kafton will serve as the council’s representatives to the Going Green Committee.

Jackson’s Going Green Committee was created in 2009. The panel conducts research and makes recommendations to the mayor and Township Council as to ways Jackson’s representatives can take official action and conduct business that encourages, promotes and protects the environment.
