   The Woman’s Club of Hillsborough will hold a fashion show and basket auction Oct. 10 at B.P.O. Elks, 375 Union Ave., Bridgewater. Doors open at noon. Luncheon will be served. Advance admission tickets are $30 — no admission tickets will be sold at the door. No one under the age of 18 years old will be admitted to the event.    The Somerset County Park Commission is seeking children ages 6 — 12 to sign up as Junior Ranger recruits for a summer of outdoor entertainment and education. The Junior Rangers will learn about the natural world and how ecosystems work while working hand in hand with the Park Rangers; Junior Ranger Workbooks are available for free at the Ranger stations in Colonial Park in Franklin Township and Duke Island Park in Bridgewater. When the activities in the Workbook are completed a Park Ranger to review the work, administer the Junior Ranger pledge, and present the official Junior Ranger badge.
   Junior Rangers are also entitled to participate in special events and programs throughout the summer and fall. Upcoming programs include: Pond Clean-up at Colonial Park on Aug. 15; Tree Tour at Natirar on Sept. 25; Mountain Biking at Washington Valley Park on Oct. 2; and Learning Lenape at Colonial Park Nov. 20.

   The next scheduled meeting of the Hillsborough Planning Board is 7:30 p.m. Sept. 2 in the municipal courtroom.

Saturday, Sept. 4
   The Delaware & Raritan Canal Watch will hold a free history tour by bicycle along the D&R Canal beginning at 10 a.m. Sept. 4 at the canal’s Griggstown parking lot along the Griggstown Causeway in Franklin Township. Canal enthusiast Bob Barth will conduct the ride, which will stop at historic villages and canal structures, such as locks and swing bridges. He will explain why the D&R was one of the most successful canals in the United States. Helmets are required and cyclists are advised to bring water and a snack for the ride, which will last approximately three hours. The nonprofit D & R Canal Watch helps promote, enhance and preserve the Delaware & Raritan Canal State Park. For further information, call Mr. Barth at 201-401-3121.

Wednesday, Sept. 8
   St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church will sponsor a Slavic dinner from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 8. The dinner will be held in the St. Mary Parish Center, 1900 Brooks Blvd. The cost is $12 for adults (ages 9 and up) and $5 for children (8 and under), and includes all-you-can-eat pirohi, stuffed cabbage, kielbasa and sauerkraut, mashed potatoes, salad, desert and beverage.    The Somerset Hills Kennel Club Dog Show will be held Sept. 9 through Sept. 12 at North Branch Park in Bridgewater. The event is open to the general public and is free of charge.
   Come and enjoy a spaghetti dinner at The Y’s Community Night, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 10 at the Hillsborough Family YMCA at the intersection of South Branch and East Mountain roads. The event will include after-dinner activities.

   Author Robin Gaby Fisher, a nationally-acclaimed news feature writer with the Star-Ledger, will have a book signing of “After the Fire,” the story of two survivors of the deadly 2000 fire at Seton Hall University, at the Manville Public Library, 100 S. 10th Ave., Manville, at noon Sept. 13.    The Hillsborough Board of Education will hold a regular meeting at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 13 in the cafetorium at Auten Road Intermediate School.
   The GSA Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee will hold a meeting at 7 p.m. Sept. 15 to review the proposed park plans and recreation plan for the site. The meeting will be held in Conference Room A of the municipal building.
   Prudential New Jersey Properties is sponsoring its sixth annual golf invitational at Royce Brook Golf Club Sept. 13 to benefit The Sunshine Kids Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing positive activities and emotional support for children with cancer. Participation and other sponsorship opportunities are available for the full day event that culminates in a closing ceremony filled with entertainment and prizes. The tournament welcomes golf enthusiasts of all ages and abilities — player entry is $175 per person, which includes greens’ fees, lunch, dinner, drinks, raffle, awards and silent auction. A dinner package that includes everything except golfing is available for $75.    The Hillsborough Volunteer Fire Co. No. 2 Auxiliary will meet at 8 p.m. Sept. 14 on the second floor of the firehouse on Route 206. The primary purpose of the auxiliary is to assist and support Hillsborough’s Volunteer Firemen and their families, and to raise funds for the fire company and charities. The auxiliary welcomes anyone interested in joining — potential members do not need to have a relative in the fire company to join.
