John W. “Bebe” Higgins Sr.

Mr. Higgins, 77, a resident of Hazlet for 52 years, died Oct. 17, 2010, at home. He worked as a freight handler with American Airlines, Newark, then as an insurance agent with Kirwin Insurance Co., Hazlet, and later as a photographer with Dupress Studio, Hazlet, before retiring in 1995. Mr. Higgins was a member of American Legion Post 321, Union Beach, where he was the finance officer. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was predeceased by a sister, Helen Watkins. Mr. Higgins is survived by his wife of 53 years, Florence Jacobs Higgins; his children, John W. Higgins Jr. and his wife, Maureen, of Millstone, Timothy M. Higgins and his wife, Riva, of Howell, James P. Higgins and his wife, Constance, of Union Beach, and Mary Ann Lietz and her husband, John, of Aberdeen; his mother, Clara Capasso Higgins of Matawan; his brothers, James P. Higgins of Toms River and Joseph G. Higgins of Matawan; five grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Holy Family Catholic Church, Union Beach. Entombment followed at St. Joseph Mausoleum, Keyport. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association Research Foundation. The Day Funeral Home, Keyport, was in charge of arrangements.
