Burglars steal cash from home during overnight robbery

JACKSON — Police are searching for the individuals who illegally entered a residence on Rapids Drive on Dec. 5.

“On Dec. 5 at approximately 10 a.m., Jackson Police Officer Wayne Olejarz responded to a residence on Rapids Drive on a reported burglary and theft,” Jackson police Sgt. Steven Laskiewicz said in a press release. “The homeowner reported that sometime during the overnight hours, unknown persons entered the house while the three residents were asleep in their rooms and removed belongings.”

It was reported that the suspects entered the bedrooms where the occupants were sleeping and removed money from wallets and were preparing to take other items in a downstairs room, but left the home without taking all the items.

Detective Shawn Hobson responded to process the residence for evidence.

Anyone who may have information regarding this incident or who may have witnessed suspicious activity near the home is asked to contact the Jackson Police Department at 732-928-1111.

At 8:08 a.m. Dec. 5, Jackson police officers Arthur Salisbury and Kevin Chesney responded to a call at the Wawa convenience store at the intersection of Bennetts Mills Road and East Veterans Highway.

The caller indicated there was a driver who appeared intoxicated at the scene, according to police.

“Upon the officers’ arrival the caller reported that he had observed a subject who appeared to be intoxicated after driving over the curbing at a Hess gas station across the street,” Laskiewicz said. “[The driver] then drove erratically into the parking lot. [The person who called police] pointed out the car and described the driver to the officers.”

Laskiewicz said the driver was getting into the car and attempting to leave the scene when the officers stopped him. Following a series of field sobriety tests, the driver, Shawn McKeon, 21, of Jackson, was arrested and his vehicle was impounded.

McKeon was taken to police headquarters, where he was charged with driving while intoxicated and driving with a suspended license. He was later released to a family member.
